Community activities

Cultural and social life of the Jewish community of Zaporozhye is in need of serious systematic development. The most widespread cultural events are the events related to the major Jewish holidays. Thousands of people come to concerts, conducted by the community in the best halls of the city, more than 1,000 community members participated in a public Seder organized in the days of Passover. 

Women's club and hobby groups hold a variety of quizzes and competitions. A special program for young people and students is running. For students of Jewish schools and their parents Shabatons are held - special retreats allowing the whole family to get acquainted with Jewish traditions. These programs are popular enough and in fact are programs aimed at strengthening the Jewish family.

However, the development of cultural programs of the Jewish community is now extremely difficult, primarily because of the lack of permanent financing and the lack of facilities for these purposes. The community is confident that the opening of multi-functional center of the Jewish cultural and educational programs will attract a significant number of Jews of all ages. Various community clubs for young people and students and for people over age group are established. However the Centre is important to attract to the community the people of middle age.

Not less important is the creation and support of various Jewish creative teams that can not only participate in a citywide cultural process but also to represent the Jewish community of Zaporozhye on the national and international level. The emergence of adapted premises will allow art and photo exhibitions, literature meetings, scientific and practical conference. The Centre will be able to attract substantial creative power, scientific and technical workers not only from Zaporizhia but from other cities of Ukraine.
