Community activities
Since independence of Ukraine Jewish life began to revive. In Chernigov in 1993 religious community began to work and the Chesed Esther charity fund works since 1989.
Today more than 3,500 people of the region study and revive Jewish culture, history and traditions.
Since 1998 members of our community fulfill the mitzva of Brit Milah. 20 men, the oldest of whom was 71, got circumsised. Two boys were circumcised on day 8 as it should be according to the Jewish Law.
Strong family is the core value for every Jew. The members of the community have the opportunity to hold wedding ceremony according to the Jewish law. To stand under Huppah means to seal the marriage union before G‑d and spiritually ascend to a higher level.
Jewish holidays have a special place in the community life. Prayers, meals, ceremonies are held during the holidays. Merry holidays always have concerts with lots of interesting events and treats for the community members. Everyone who comes feels like part of a large Jewish family. For people who can not visit the holiday for health reasons school children bring a piece of holiday to their homes, greet and treat them and light candles.
