Community history
Jewish kindergarten in Uzhgorod has been operating for 3 years.There are new groups.Children are in a separate, purpose-built premises.Classes are held: music, English, Hebrew, Jewish traditions, physical education, mathematics, chess and other. Children in the garden are brought there by car.
Every day after school children come to afternoon Hebrew school.There they are fed, given homework help, etc.
On holidays public events (concerts, dining, clubs, etc.) are organized.
A book for the Jews in Carpathian is published Monthly (4 to 8 pages).The book Viewpoint written by the chief rabbi of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Menachem Mendel Tayhman on significant dates of the Jewish calendar was recently published.
Currently the Jewish cemetery is being renovated. The full list of thousands of tombs is being prepared.
Kosher dining room operates for three years now.The sick and the old are delivered hot meals at home.Weekly, every Friday, the Jews not only in Uzhgorod and other cities receive Gut Schabes food packs.These packs include candles, dishes, salads, gefilte fish, challah.
Several times a week, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Tayhman holds lessons of Torah for young people which reveals the most important laws of Jewish life.
