 Community history

The Jewish community of Ivano-Frankivsk (former Stanislav) got its rights in autumn 1662 and existed until the Nazi occupation in 1941-1944 during which  all Jews were killed (127,000 people). After World War II, until 1991, the community has not been formally restored, although operated illegally.

Currently Ivano-Frankovsk Jewish Community of orthodox religion is located in the synagogue building at Strachenyh Str., 7. The synagogue building which is over 100 years was built in 1898 and returned to the community in 1991. During this period the building has not undergone reconstructions and has its original form, except for the domes which were demolished during Soviet rule.

Now the community has more than 1,100 people. The community works with JAFI and has an Or-Avner school, Israeli Cultural Center, clubs for women and youth, Skillful hands children's club, Council of Veterans, library, Magen Avot fund, Tiferez Zkeynim - Levi Yitzchak Kolel and Hohmat Noshim courses of Torah, history and traditions of the Jewish people.

All members of the community take active part in the festivities and daily life of the Ivano-Frankovsk Jewish religious community.
