Community activity

Today the Jewish community in the city is attended by approximately 3000-3500 people. In 1991 the Grand Choral Synagogue building was returned to the Jewish religious community in Kirovograd. The Jewish community of the town has a theater which is of great popularity among the Jews not only in Kirovohrad but also in many communities in Ukraine. There is also a museum called "The Jews of Elizavetgrad" which tells the current generation about the history of Jews and Judaism from ancient times in the Kirovograd region. It provides facts about the buildings that belonged to the Jewish community and were expropriated by the Soviet government. Through the work of activists the museum building was refunded to the Jews.

A very extensive work is carried out in the Kirovograd region in smaller towns. The towns are Alexandria, Znamenka, Haivoron, Novoukrainka, Novomyrhorod etc.
