As the Kirovograd authorities inform there are 16 objects of memory of the people who perished during the World War Two in the Kirovograd region. The majority of them were Jews. Several of the memorials have the sign that they are dedicated to the Jewish victims of Nazism, one of them has the inscription “Here 66 victims of Holocaust are buried – innocently murdered Jews”.
The state register of the monuments has information on only three monuments in the Kirovograd region. The situation is alike everywhere in Ukraine. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine declares that the monuments which indicate that they are established in memory of Jewish Holocaust victims are absent at all.
Moreover, the Ministry of Culture informed that these issues were under the State Committee on Nationalities and Religions jurisdiction. This committee was dissolved by decree of President of Ukraine from 09.12.2011. Successor of the organization was not assigned. The archive of the data collected was not passed on to anyone and according to Ukrainian legislation it was to be submitted to the State Archives which is just a storage - rather than the operating structure.
Therefore, today in Ukraine it is impossible to create or clarify any such information in a single database of monuments, memorials and mass graves of Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
