Members of the Odessa Jewish community have celebrated Rosh Hashanah and are getting ready for Yom Kipur.

Понедельник, 03. Октябрь, 2022 - 9:11

This year was different from all previous 30 years of the Jewish community existence: Odessa is living through the nightmare of anxiety, night curfew, families torn apart with men staying in Ukraine, and women and children fleeing abroad.

But against all odds, the members of the community tried to organize the celebration and make it as joyful as ever to show support and mend the broken hearts.

For this purpose, thousands of families of the city and region were delivered festive food packages.

The hotel was rented in a city center to house around 200 people and hundreds more gathered in the synagogue.

Having listened to the blasts of the shofar, the members of the community made their way to the Black Sea shore to hold the rite of "Tashlikh", eating apples with honey and pomegranate and singing "Our father is our king..."

All this became possible thanks to the JRNU organization.

Now members of the Jewish community of Odessa are already preparing for Yom Kipur.

The synagogue on 21 Osipova street is open for each and everyone  on Tuesday, October 4, at 18:00.
