On June 20 - 21, the Intercontinental Hotel hosted the annual conference organized by the European Jewish Association (EJA). The conference was opened by the Chairman of the European Jewish Association - Rabbi Menachem Margolin and the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary - Mr. Zsolt Chemien. The Chairman of the Association of Jewish Communities of Hungary, Chief Rabbi Shlomo Koves, the Ambassador of Israel to Hungary, Mr. Yakov Hadas-Handelsman, and the Deputy Minister of the Interior of Greece, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, were giving a speech at the plenary sessions.
One of the important topics of the conference was the situation in Ukraine and the activities of Jewish communities in wartime. The two-day meeting aims to show the unity needed to successfully face all challenges. Despite the war in our country, representatives of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine were able to take part in the conference: Vice Chairman of the FJCU Rabbi Rafael Rutman, Director of the FJCU - Ms. Alina Teplitska.
During the conference, Rabbi Rafael Rutman, told about how the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine operates in wartime to ensure that urgent relief reaches the neediest.
Alisa Rostovtseva, a representative from Mariupol (the most destroyed Ukrainian city), described widespread destruction, the evacuation and further work of the community.
Also, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine organized the arrival of the chairmen of the Jewish communities: Konstantinivka - Naum Dmitriev, Bar - Grigory Ryzhy, Slavyansk - Yulia Lednyak, Kanev - Elena Chervinskaya, Novomoskovsk - Yuriy Medvedovsky, Kalush - Maxim Murzov, Ivano-Frankivsk - Igor Perelman, Rivne - Gersh Fraerman, Zhmerinka Vladimir Slobodyanyuk, Pryluki - Irina Beis. They visited the camp for the refugees from Ukraine, which is located near Lake Balaton, got acquainted with its structure and accommodation conditions, and also met with members of their communities located in the camp.
