Authorities to destroy a former Jewish community building in Simferopol.

Crimean authorities intend to demolish the remains of former buildings of a Simferopol hotel Astoria, which also previously housed the Jewish community, a printing house and a cinema. It is reported by the newspaper "Respublika", which is considered close to the authorities.

"The ruins of the buildings are a disgrace to the capital of Crimea and must no longer be there, - the chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Anatoly Mogilev said. - I promise: till the end of the year a square or any other useful object which will decorate the city will be constructed on the site. The new Shavuot booklet.

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine issued a new booklet for the holiday of Shavuot.

The booklet provides all the information about the holiday: its history, traditions, commandments, blessings.

The holiday of Shavuot is the day when Jews were given the Torah. On this day, standing at the foot of Mount Sinai, the Jews heard the 10 commandments.

This holiday has four titles:

First: "Shavuot" means "weeks" and consonant with the word "shvuot" - "oath." Shavuot is celebrated after seven weeks from the first day of Passover, that is - "weeks." At Mount Sinai Jews vowed to be loyal to G-d, and G-d vowed to them. That is the "shvuot" - "oath."
