Kiev Lights Up with Foreign Diplomats &High Ranking Government Officials

Ambassadors, Foreign diplomats and Ukrainian Government Ministers and Officials joined the local and foreign Jewish business community at the annual Chanukah party and Menorah lighting hosted by Raphael and DevorahRutman at the exclusive five star Intercontinental Hotel in the center of Kiev.

The evening, which fell on the sixth night of Chanukah, began with opening remarks by the host, Raphael Rutman. He thanked all of the participants for making the effort to come to spread the universal message of the Chanukah Lights.

19 Kislev - The “New Year” of Chassidism

The 19th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev is celebrated as the “Rosh Hashanah of Chassidism.” It was on this date, in the year 1798, that the founder of ChabadChassidism, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi (1745–1812), was freed from his imprisonment in czarist Russia. More than a personal liberation, this was a watershed event in the history of Chassidism, heralding a new era in the revelation of the “inner soul” of Torah.

1928: Rebbe's Wedding Day

14 Kislev 5689: The Lubavitcher Rebbe married Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneersohn at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshivah in Warsaw, Poland.

On the 14th of Kislev, 1928, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, married Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneersohn (1901-1988).

The wedding was held in Warsaw, Poland, at the Lubavitcher Yeshivah, Tomchei Temimim.

Upon Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn's passing in 1950, Rabbi Menachem Mendel succeeded his father-in-law as the seventh Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch.
