Community history 

Information about the presence of Jews in the city of Kremenchug start with 1782 in 1910 the number of Jews made up about 50%, had 60 synagogues, 18 Jewish schools of general education, including 9 men and 9 women. By 1926 the number of Jews in the city was 49.2% of the population, but all the synagogues were closed, and they were placed by various institutions. Thus, in the Choral Synagogue on the street. Quarter was the town's museum, etc.

In the town of Lubavitch yeshiva operated visited by the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel during his stay in Kremenchug. Since the beginning of 1920 yeshiva operated clandestinely, and in 1930 was completely abolished by the authorities. During the occupation, the Nazis destroyed the Kremenchug in 1941-43. 8 thousand Jews. After liberation from the Nazis in the city operated a synagogue which was located in the basement, but it was closed in 1963.

Kremenchug in different years, visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In 1810-1812 years. lived in Kremenchug II Lubavitcher Rebbe Dov Ber, in 1843, III Tzemach Tzedek Lubavitch Rebbe opened in Kollel in 1893. IV Lubavitcher Rebbe was staying a week at the invitation of the Hasidim.

Since 1996, working religious community, "Chaim" (chairman Anatoly Petrovetsky), "Shalom" (Chairman Ilya Korohov).

In 1998 the city came from Rabbi Shlomo David Salamon. First of all have been held daily prayers, organized by the Jewish holidays, dole, etc. On Jewish holidays, which took place in urban clubs and palaces of culture, going up to 1,000 people, including non-Jews.

Through the efforts of a rabbi, chairman of the community activists and Jewish organizations EN Polyak, A. Tzemach, A. Petrovetskogo in 1999, documents were drawn up, and the old synagogue building was officially handed over to the community. After two fires, the building is almost nothing left. Currently, the newly built beautiful synagogue is the center of Jewish spiritual and cultural life of the Kremenchug region.

The synagogue has a large prayer hall, a mikvah, a dining room, placed the Jewish organizations, "Hesed-Chaim," separation "Jewish Agency", a branch of the Israeli Cultural Center. The synagogue was built by material means the Rohr Family Foundation.

At present, the community has 3,000 people.
