Dnepropetrovsk Jewish School is one of the first Jewish schools of CIS and has the largest number of children learning. Its full name is Dnipropetrovsk Or Avner Chabad Lubavitch special school of Levi Yitzchak Schneerson with intensive study of Hebrew, Jewish history and tradition. It was founded in 1991 when the authorities of the city decided to organize Jewish classes in the high school number 58. The school was built with the support of the Or Avner Chabad Lubavitch Fund headed by its President Mr. Levi Leviev.
On November 1, 1991 Jewish classes have been converted into a Jewish school number 144. The school then had 216 students. In March 1993 the City authorities decided to transfer the orphans house building to the Jewish school and the school moved the Minin St. where it is now.
Today the school has some five hundred students.Along with the general subjects all students of the school acquire a basic knowledge of Hebrew, Jewish history and tradition and culture of the Jewish people. The ORT Information Technology Centre was created in the school and the students have an opportunity to learn information and computer technology starting from the youngest classes and learn all the disciplines with audio-visual and computer support.
The school provides all of its students with free transportation to all districts of the city, kosher meals and a variety of optional extracurricular activities. The students of the school won prizes in quizzes and contests including international many times. The school takes active part in the life of the Jewish community and has at present over a thousand graduates who are the pride of the school. At the end of learning in the Jewish school the students have the opportunity to continue their studies at prestigious universities of Ukraine, Israel, Austria, Germany and the United States.
Since 2005 the school principal is L. Ganopolsky and the President of the school is Rabbi M. Ostrovsky.
