22 Shvat – Yortsayt of Rebbetzin Chaya-Mushka

Today is a very special day - the 22 of Shvat. On this day in 5748 (1988) Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe's wife, passed away. The Rebbetzin family was a continuous chain of spiritual leaders. She was a granddaughter of the Rebbe Rashab and the daughter of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Rayats.

People who grew up next to Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, were not just Jewish leaders, those were the giants of the spirit and dedication of the great intelligence. It was her father the Rebbe Rayats who trusted her with important assignments related to the underground network of Jewish schools in the revolutionary Russia. She accompanied him into exile to Kostroma.

All her rare abilities the Rebbetzin gave to the service of G-d. She helped people that are close to her, and far, she has been very sensitive towards people, was able to find the right words for every person.

In 5689 (1929), the Rebbetzin married Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe. She was utterly devoted to him as a friend, and was a source of spiritual strength. Chaya-Mushka was always beside him, tirelessly helping her husband carry the light of the Torah to the Jews.

Someone once said, thatthe Rebbetzin and the Rebbe deserve more happiness from their Hasidim, and she said: "Our happiness is when we hear of your happiness".

The Rebbetzin left the world on Wednesday, 22 of Shevat 5748 (10 February 1988), after a short illness. The funeral, which took place a few hours after her death, was attended by over 15 thousand people. Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson was buried next to her grandmother, Rebbetzin Shterna-Sara opposite the tomb of the Rebbe Rayats.
