Today is the 28th of Tevet. On this day in 5640 (1880) in the city of Nikolayev the mother of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson was born to this world. The Hasidim called Rebbetzin Chana - mother of the Jewish people. Her parents were Rabbi Meir Shlomo Yanovsky, who was the Rabbi of Nikolayev and rebbetzin Rachel, daughter of Rabbi Yitzhak Pushnich, rabbi of the city Dobrenko.

On the 13th of Sivan 5660 (June 10, 1900), she married Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson. In 5669 (1908) Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was appointed as rabbi of the city of Ekaterinoslav (now Dnipro). Over thirty while being the rabbi of Ekaterinoslav the Rebbbetzinn stood next to him in his holy work. In addition to the fact that the Rebbetzin was an educated woman, she knew the Russian language really well, and could understand people and know how to communicate with them. This is how she has significantly contributed to the success of her husband.

In 5699 (1938) Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was arrested for his active steps to strengthen Judaism in the Soviet Russia. Soon, he was sentencedand sent to Chile - a remote city in Kazakhstan. Immediately after the Rebbetzin fround out about the whereabouts of her husband, she joined him, in spite of the difficulties and dangers involved with it. By arriving in Chile, she was able to facilitate the countless troubles and sufferings of her husband.

In all conditions Rebbetzin Chana has been making homemade ink with her own hands, and got paper to give her husband an opportunity to write amazing discoveries in the Torah, which came to light only after many years.
In 5707 (1946), Rebbetzin Chana went from Russia to Paris, where she met her first son, whom she had not seen for nearly twenty years. From Paris, the two went to New York, where the Rebbetzin began a new, happy life.
In Brooklyn, Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson lived her seventeen last years of her life. She left the world on the Shabbat the 6th of Tishrei 5725 (1964), and was buried in New York.

There are two explanations of the name Hana. In both cases, the name is an acronym.

In the first case, the first letters of the words:
Challah – Separation of the challah dough
Nerot – lighting of Shabbos candles
Atzna Lechet - modesty

In the second:
Challah – Separation of the challah dough
Nida – the laws of family life purity
Adlakat Nerot — lighting of Shabbos candles
